Sexting: The New Threat To Our Youth
Sexting is electronic communication that can include sexual comments about self or others, nude pictures, and pictures of body parts via cell phones, e-mailing, or IMing. It can be for the purpose of having “text” sex sessions, flirting, attention seeking, setting up future contact, or bullying.
A class is being offered on understanding how “sexting” is influencing the lives of our teens. It is mandatory that at least one, preferably both, parents attend with their teen.
Presenters will include Brittain Paul, LISW-S, from Ravenwood Mental Health Center, Mark Clark, the Geauga County Sexual Abuse Investigator, and Tracy Jordan, the Geauga County Victim Advocate.
When: March 29, 2011
Time: 6:00
*Registration is required: To do so please call Brittain Paul, LISW-S at 440-285-3400, ext 322.
2011 Child Abuse Prevention 5k Run/Walk Event
Geauga Job & Family Services are doing a Child Abuse Prevention 5K Run/Walk on April 16, 2011. They did this last year and it was a pretty fun event. The money raised will go to the Moorhead Scholarship for kids in foster placement. The brochure and registration form are linked on a Facebook Event Page. Also, if you know anyone interested in the community, please feel free to invite them.
Happy New Year 2011!
Happy New Year, Cheers and Thanks for helping area children by supporting GCA by using the easy Donate button on GCA on Face Book tab and on our website.
Sara Shininger, Volunteer Coordinator from JFS, and our "own" Terry Richardson coordinated the "Sponsor a Family" program again this year. They arranged for donations of food and gifts for over 700 needy families in Geauga County. We would like to thank them for this enormous effort. Several other Geauga Children's Alliance board members also volunteered to help with this effort throughout November and December.
Geauga Children's Services Levy - Nov. 2, 2010

Thank You Geauga County!
This note is from Barbara Rakes at Geauga Job and Family Services:
Thank you to everyone that helped with the Levy campaign! It is always nice to have a successful campaign and we can be proud that the residents of Geauga County supported us with a 58%-42% margin.
State wide, all 9 of the Children's Services Levies on the ballot passed in this election. This is a nice example that even in these difficult financial times that our communities still believe in supporting services for the children that can't help themselves.
Thank you again!
Barbara Rakes
Director of Social Services
